Soprano Isa Katharina Gericke is a graduate of the Academy of Music and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. She won first prize in the Queen Sonja Music Competition in May 2001, and the following year she received the Newcomer of the Year award at the Kissinger Summer festival in Germany. More recently she has been honored with The Norwegian Society's first Wessel Award. Isa made her debut as Gretel in Humperdinck's
Hansel and Gretel at the Norwegian Opera in 2003. In the opening season of the New Opera in Bjørvika she sang Euridice in Monteverdi's
Orpheus. Isa has been engaged as soloist with, among other orchestras, the Oslo Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic, and she has collaborated with conductors such as Sir Andrew Davies, Manfred Honneck, Franz Brüggen, Rinaldo Alessandrini and Philipe Herreweghe. Isa has specialized in the lied and romance genre and has participated in several festivals both in Norway and abroad. Last autumn she made her debut in London with a recital at the Wigmore Hall. For the record label Naxos she sings Solveig in a completely new recording of Grieg's
Peer Gynt. Previously, she released the acclaimed CD
Waldabendlust (Simax Grappa), and in April this year she releaseds her latest solo CD
To Eve (Simax Grappa), a collection of Norwegian romances that celebrates singer Eva Sars Nansen. Isa also sings on the Christmas CD
Mitt Hjerte Alltid Vanker with trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra (this was released in November 2009). Isa Katharina Gericke is one of the founders of the Oslo Baroque Opera, and since 2001 she has been Artistic Director of the annual Gloger festival. In 2010 she is performing La Musica and Euridice in Monteverdi's
Orfeo in Hannover, and in July she debuts as Gudrun in
Saint Olav in Stiklestad.
