Since completing his studies in orchestral conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Olof Boman has established himself as one of Sweden’s most interesting young conductors. He has been Artistic Director for the Gloger Festival since 2009.
Olof has always had a particular interest in 18th century music and has also made a devoted study of the harpsichord and its place in the music of the Baroque and Classical periods. This has led to intense activity with a number of Baroque orchestras, and in September 2006 he took over from René Jacobs as conductor of the Akademie für Alte Musik, Berlin, at short notice, achieving notable success at the Bach Festival in Köthen.
Olof has been the guest conductor of many Swedish orchestras, including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted a whole range of major European choirs, including the Swedish Radio Choir, the Eric Ericsson Chamber Choir and the RIAS Chamber Choir in Berlin. He collaborates closely with Vocalconsort Berlin and has also premiered Frank Schwemmer’s opera "Medea Stimmen" with this internationally renowned ensemble.
His great knowledge of and interest in vocal music has also made him a sought-after opera conductor and he has been the musical director of several operas, both in Sweden and abroad. An old dream of his came true when he made his debut at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre in Stockholm in the summer of 2008, conducting the highly acclaimed production of L'Opera Seria by Florian Leopold Gassman.
The 2009-2010 season includes not only a large number of concerts but also several opera productions such as Philemon und Baucis by Joseph Haydn at the Festival Potsdam Sanssouci, Acis and Galatea by Georg Friedrich Händel with Oslo Barokkoper and L’Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi in Hannover.
